Your Mind Matters: A Family Wellness Night in Bel Air

As we move into May 2026, Harford County is coming together for one of the most important community events of the year. On May 8, 2026, Harford County Public Schools (HCPS), in partnership with the Office on Mental Health Core Service Agency, will host "Your Mind Matters: A Family Wellness Night." This free event is designed to break down the barriers to mental health support by transforming a "serious" topic into an evening of family-centered joy and connection.

Why This Event Matters for Bel Air Families

In 2026, our youth are navigating a high-pressure digital landscape alongside the general volatility of world events. "Your Mind Matters" provides a safe, energetic space for families to reconnect and learn about local resources without the clinical "stigma." The event features:

  • Somatic Play: A bounce house, rock climbing wall, and even a mechanical bull—activities that encourage physical movement as a way to release stored stress.

  • Creative Expression: Craft stations where children and parents can engage in mindful creation, a proven technique for lowering cortisol levels.

  • Resource Access: Direct access to community partners and mental health professionals who can answer questions in an informal, friendly setting.

Note: While the event is free, registration is required. You can secure your family's spot at .

More Good Days: Local May Activities

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Month 2026, "More Good Days, Together," is reflected in several other local initiatives designed to boost our community's collective well-being:

  • Walk With a Doc: Join local healthcare providers at Schucks Regional Park (301 Schucks Road) on May 3 and May 9 at 10:00 AM. Walking in nature is one of the most accessible "mood boosters" available in Bel Air.

  • Suicide Bereavement Support: For those navigating the complex grief of loss, the Ed Lally Foundation hosts a "New to Grief" support group on May 6 at 6:00 PM in Bel Air.

  • Be Seen in Green: Throughout the month, look for the green lights at local landmarks and B'More Clubhouse. Participating in this visual movement shows our neighbors that no one has to walk their mental health journey alone.
